Organisations and Groups – Quick Guide

Groups across Corstorphine — from the Scouts and Guides to community centres, churches, Friends of Parks, and schools — can all help make our area brighter and more welcoming.
Taking part is simple, fun and rewarding!

🌿 1. Adopt or Create a Planter

There are several easy ways to get involved:

  • Adopt an existing planter – Take care of one that’s already in place by watering, weeding, and replanting it through the seasons.
  • Create your own – Add tubs, barrels, or raised beds outside your building or meeting place.
  • Add hanging baskets or window boxes – A simple way to bring colour to entrances, fences or railings.

📍 2. Choose a Location

You can plant:

  • On your own premises
  • In a nearby community space
  • Or in a public area (with permission)

If you’d like to use a pavement or grass verge, we can help contact the City of Edinburgh Council (Transport or Greenspaces teams) to check what’s allowed.

🌼 3. Plan What to Plant

We encourage colourful, pollinator-friendly flowers such as:

  • Petunias, marigolds, geraniums, and pansies
  • Spring bulbs like daffodils or tulips
  • Evergreens for year-round colour

You can even create a theme for your group — for example, using your organisation’s colours.

💧 4. Keep It Looking Good

Each group looks after:

  • Regular watering (especially in dry weather)
  • Removing weeds and litter
  • Refreshing plants seasonally

We can also arrange joint community planting days if you’d like to take part alongside other local groups.

📣 5. Share Your Success

We’ll celebrate your efforts on the Corstorphine in Bloom website and social media.
Your display will show how community groups across Corstorphine are making a real difference to local streets and green spaces.
