Present. Janice, Stephen from city council Sabrina, Donald, Sam, Andy from park groups and community council
These are my rough notes and not minutes. Agenda items in bold.
Chat first
Janice to discuss with East Lothian who have done good things. A walk around would be good. Andy to send out an advertising standard to Janice. Janice can provide some items – will also ask Ritchie. Corstorphine Primary has a wooden planter. Send list to Janice of wooden planters. Janice has gloves and tools available. Her role is Team Leaders for planters. We discussed the devolved nature of the scheme. Groups sponsor planters. Businesses contribute money for flowers etc. Get a wee sign to Council standards. No bureaucracy, no meetings, no committee. The nursery will keep a list of who manages what planter.
Sam at Drumbrae Park has planters and looking at getting that up and running. They are Edinburgh Leisure planters in the park. Edinburgh Leisure will provide water.
Agenda items
1. Discussion on stone planters – we have two adopted already and three businesses putting up sponsorship. How will it work with trees and grills? Janice to speak to Ritchie about getting the grill off. Not sure how much depth to soil.
2. Plants and horticulture support – will we be able to get advice on plants to be used or should we go ahead? One business would like the planter plants in their colours. – what do we want asked janice. Andy will be sending a list of things intending to plant.
3. Hanging baskets – can we advise businesses to go ahead with this? There were no legal or other impediments. Nursery have hanging baskets or large self watering baskets. Would have to remain in ownership of the council. Council could do it and Janice will prepare a price list. Or could use Benholm.
4. New Planters.. Preferred planters cost £600 to make 10 years ago – could do audit for spares. Need substantial planters that do not fall apart. Planning interested – if they have to move the planters , check that they can. Ritchie has other planters available. The audit has been partially done. Lot’s of plants left in the wilderness. Planning is very keen. Planning guys would come out to check
5. Livery – do we have signs saying “Supported by Corstorphine and Clermiston Community Council , City of Edinburgh” Plus Logo? Yes. Comms team could agree. Lindsay Grant? Stevie to check.
6. Longer term the model is we have registered people looking after planters sometimes sponsored by businesses. This would be self sufficient. However I would be looking for someone in the council to keep a list. The 5 parks would be the local admin.
The nursery would keep a master list
Planter with trellis for graffiti management.
7. Zoo – do I update them on progress? – Zoo would do signage etc Ritchie – does he know.
Other things discussed
Constituted groups can get discounts – businesses can’t. Janice to think that through.
Drumbare planters and Corstorphine primary – when do they want to plant? Does anyone want to do? Ritchie’s Rangers could help with delivery of plants perhaps. Corstorphine Primary – Martyn needs asked – PTA could finance plants.
Donations can be done to groups. Rangers might help deliver but needs discussed. Speaking to senior management.
Business sponsorship in parks can happen – idea behind sponsorship in shopping areas is to increase footfall.
8. Next steps – we will be putting up posters as well as contacting businesses and organisations.Andy to send list of things to Janice with links to more detail.
Janice to send proposed dates to come out for site visit. Wants to speak to volunteers, businesses which will take more than one visit.
