A visit to historic Falkland found half whisky barrels dotted around town filled with flowers. You can read about the history on the historic Falkland website – see Falkland in Bloom.

Decline and change
Like many volunteer groups, it struggled with declining numbers of helpers over time. Eventually the original Falkland in Bloom group wound down as volunteers reduced. However, the work continued through a new organisation called the Falkland Gardening Group, which traces its roots directly back to Falkland in Bloom.
Today the group:
- runs a community growing space called Sugar Acre Garden
- grows plants for village displays
- maintains allotments and polytunnels
- donates surplus produce to the community.
