Meeting With Council 3rd December

This meeting was about a site survey along St John’s Road.

  1. The hanging baskets are not an issue and businesses can go ahead. Andy to check with Edinburgh Vets and Stevie to check with council that there are no issues.
  2. The zoo are interested in the project and if the community council, Edinburgh council and the zoo worked together we could have themed animals for each of the 15 locations ( 11 shopping areas and four parks). QR codes and statues for photos might be part of this. A Corstorphine Safari trail too. Footfall for businesses , exercise and flowers. Everyone wins. A meeting is to be arranged with the zoo.
  3. The planter type was discussed. Need to be mindful of graffiti. The metal ones in the town centre were thought to be best. Cost is an issue but funding – council/business/grant – comes later. Match funding was discussed.
  4. Advertising is already covered by council rules and businesses would be able to add their details.
  5. Pollinator plants are important – here is the guide on the website How to Design Pollinator Corridors
  6. A walk around looked at the trees and stone planters. The trees will take away the water from the planters. Stevie to get advice on how best to use them.

We discussed timelines with a launch in January with news media and then working out how many volunteers. Planters delivered in February, planting in March.
